Berlin is safe in our hands.

In 2022, 250 security staff were on duty 24 hours a day in the BVG’s vehicles and facilities, an average of approximately 2,344 hours per day. There are already cameras in all stations and vehicles; by 2022, 154 underground stations were fully equipped with video cameras. Nearly 6,672 cameras support our security staff in their work and help the authorities solve crimes.

Despite positive trends, need for action remains

Public transport in Berlin has become even safer in the past year. This is evident from the ‘Situation Report on Public Transport Safety’, an annual assessment conducted by the Berlin police. In nearly all categories, crime rates are declining. Incidents of pickpocketing (-18%) and property damage (-41%) have reached their lowest point in a decade. These figures amount to 13,709 reported crimes amidst approximately 961 million passenger journeys in 2022. By comparison, the previous year recorded 16,655 crimes during 715 million passenger journeys.

ACCESSIBILITY

Better access, better lives.

Accessibility is a matter that the BVG takes very seriously. All our buses have been accessible since 2009, all trams since 2021. At present (September 2022), 81% of Berlin’s 175 underground stations provide step-free access by means of lifts or ramps. Guiding aids for the blind are available at 77% of stations. The BVG plans to equip the remaining underground stations with lifts, ramps, and guiding aids in the next few years. Full information for passengers with reduced mobility can be found in our “Accessible” flyer, which is available free of charge at all BVG sales outlets or can be downloaded here.
